Elaine Sterrett Isely

Elaine Sterrett Isely served as a 2005-2006 Great Lakes Commission-Sea Grant Fellow. She provided support for a variety of different projects, including the “Blueprint for the Future: Toward a Great Lakes Restoration Strategy” Project, the Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS), and the Regional Coordination Program.
In August 2005, Elaine received her Master of Science degree in Biology with emphases in Natural Resource Management, Watershed Management, and Environmental Policy in August 2005 from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. Her graduate project, for which she received a grant from the Fremont Area Community Foundation, focused on the development of a model zoning ordinance along a designated Natural River riparian corridor in West Michigan. Prior to the completion of her project, she obtained additional funding for GVSU’s Annis Water Resources Institute to conduct the implementation phase of the project.
Elaine also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Maryland, in College Park, Maryland and a Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School, in Detroit, Michigan. Her previous experience includes work with policy research and analysis at the Annis Water Resources Institute, enforcement and compliance assistance at the Wayne County Department of Environmental Quality’s Air Management Division in Detroit, Michigan, and over 10 years as a litigator and appellate attorney in Michigan.
