About the Commission's "blue" color...
This is a very popular color choice for logos. Perhaps because the Pantone 288 color mix displays the freedom and purity of blue mixed with the royalty and elegance of purple as well as the stimulation and excitement of red. It's a color loaded with emotional contrasts. The PMS 288 shade of blue is also used by St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Confederation College, Pellissippi State Technical Community College, Allegiance Systems, Ltd., Roadway Express, California State University, Fresno, University of California, Irvine, Utah State University, University of New Hampshire, Cedarville University, WEL Energy Trust, Xavier University, University of North Florida, Kentucky Community and Technical College System, State of Idaho Department of Commerce, and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade just to name a few of the many proponents of Pantone 288.
The Zaph Humanist family as a whole is quite similar to the Optima type family, also designed by Zapf. Zaph Humanist is the perfect example of a humanistic typeface: a sans serif letterset designed with the classic proportions of older fonts, yet more complex and refined than most sans serif designs such as Helvetica. It has the thick/thin variations lacking from most sans serif typefaces, which give it an oldstyle appeal with a contemporary twist. You can buy this font and other fonts in its family online in Mac / PC / TrueType / PostScript formats from Bitstream, Inc. This font is also installed automatically upon installation of various Corel Corporation software packages, such as Corel WordPerfect 8 and CorelDRAW 4. The Commission's preferred online font is Verdana (body text) and Verdana Bold (heads, leads). This typeface was developed by Microsoft Corp. specifically for use as a screen font that remains legible when rendered at small sizes. For more information about how the Commission uses fonts on its web site, please see the Commission's stylesheet (CSS). |
