Lake St. Clair

Lake St. Clair is the smallest lake in the Great Lakes system. It is located between Lake Huron and Lake Erie. It is heart-shaped and shallow (averaging only 10 feet/3 meters deep). The northeastern portion of Lake St. Clair is an extensive delta system, the largest within the Great Lakes. The Michigan portion of the delta has been urbanized, while Ontario has set aside much of the wetlands as the Walpole Indian Reservation. Lake St. Clair is a vital binational resources that provides a wide array of benefits to the nearly six million U.S. and Canadian residents who live in the watershed. With uses ranging from fishing, recreational boating, drinking water and commercial navigation, the lake and river are defining natural features of southeastern Michigan and southwestern Ontario.

The Great Lakes Commission is involved with numerous projects and initiatives related to Lake St. Clair and the broader Lake St. Clair system.
